Our houses start from designs similar to those an architect would produce to build a real house. These designs are inspired by real houses we admire. Our designers take what makes these houses wonderful in the real world and translate them for the dollhouse world. It's not as simple as simply shrinking the size of the house. The process involves preserving the beauty of the house, yet opening the design for visibility and easy access. This allows our designs to capture a degree of beauty unsurpassed by the traditional dollhouses of the mass-produced and part-time craft markets.
All of our houses are designed to survive the test of time. The other factors which influence our designs include considerations for creating a structure that will last for generations. Just as a fine piece of furniture employs techniques for increased durability and functionality, so do all of our houses. Materials Make the Difference All of our houses start from high quality stain-grade woods and furniture-grade birch plywood. These materials are cut and finished before being stained or painted. Even pieces such as windows and doors are fully stained and sealed before being assembled and installed.
The use of high quality materials allows us to craft the pieces of the houses to the exact dimensions which were specified by our designers and these materials result in a product that will last from generation to generation. Perfection in the Details
The first task in transforming a design into a real house involves creating templates which are initially used to assemble a full-scale mock house for design approval and then are used to layout the various raw materials, like molding and windows, used to finish the house.
